The Skullmobile’s Premiere

Published by Suma Setty at 1:15 pm under Health care

Yesterday, professionals in D.C. got more than a sandwich from Cosi for their lunch break. They inadvertently stumbled upon an opportunity to witness the Skullmobile,  a vehicle plastered with pro-reform signs accompanied by a giant inflatable skull attached to the roof (affectionately referred to as “Skully”). As the Skullmobile made its way through high-heel clad pedestrian and noontime traffic, Skully, with “Big Insurance Kills” stamped across its forehead, reminded all that health care reform can’t wait, despite congressional delays and compromises.

Skullmobile’s route was strategically planned around the locations of the swanky federal affairs offices of insurance companies like Cigna, United Healthcare, and America’s Health Insurance Plans. AHIP, the lobbying arm of the insurance industry as well as an enemy of comprehensive health care reform, hosted a conference last week at the Capitol Hilton where Karen Ignani refused to meet with seven individuals who had been mistreated and denied care by their insurance companies. Today, however, advocates of the public option shouted up to their high-rise offices, reminding them that insurance company greed is denying tens of thousands of Americans access to quality health care. A for-profit company has its shareholders in its best interests, which means the insurance companies’ money making agenda does not include extending care to those who need it the most.

Skully is a symbol of why we need health care reform, a reminder of the millions of people who have died as a result of inadequate coverage, denied claims, and insurance company greed. Still, the message needs to continue to be pushed hard, loud, and clear: Insurance companies get in the way of quality, affordable health care. Let’s continue to push this message and push for sustainable and affordable health care reform now.

1- Does decaying plant or shrimp in our ocean cause carbon? 2-Does carbon cause or add to the acidic situation? 3- Is spartina a C-4 sequestor of carbon?

If the answer is YES to any or all of the above questions, 4-then shouldn’t we rethink the policy of using chemicals to kill spartina and ghost shrimp?

    ——————THE OCEAN’S HEALTH please help!————————————————————–

.We have been trying to get more facts concerning the acidic increase in OUR ocean and trying to slow it. Even though we probably live out of your area we feel the oceans declining
health is EVERYBODYS business, also everyones state and federal tax dollars are
used for spartina eradicating chemicals. We are not tree hugger’s, not
even close, but rather two ordinary everyday worried
grandparents trying to open some eyes about the grave acidic condition of our Ocean.

    To our Elected Leaders;
    WAKE UP!

We wonder if the use of chemicals that intentionally
kills shrimp, crab and spartina could be causing the deadly
foam that’s killing seabirds by the thousands? Perhaps the
Audubon Society will look into it. But even more important,
are the above mentioned chemicals causing or adding to the
oceans acidic condition in the Pacific Northwest?
Perhaps this very probable correlation will come to light
and wake-up certain elected leaders, corporate oyster farmers and a few scientists!
In the mean time, we passionately demand for an immediate
moratorium. Then an updated unbiased independent
investigation/study of 44 years of pouring millions upon
millions of gallons of chemicals into our sea water off Washington state alone! (search oyster bed pesticide and spartina eradication
for more unbelievable facts). We should add that spartina is a
C-4 sequester of carbon.(produces oxygen) That fact alone makes it related to
our oceans acidic health! Also decaying spartina plant matter
causes carbon, hence acidic. In other words, by letting it live,
it would help slow acidic content, and in contrast, by killing it
would inevitably increase it. Please WAKE-UP!
Please use the power of the pen and help us convey
these and other concerns about this 44 year old aberration
which will drastically effect future generations. We pray it isn’t
to late for our beautiful granddaughter. Also call and write
your Elected Leaders and tell them to WAKE-UP and smell the
chemicals. After 44 years it’s time to give the ocean a break!
Thank you, Steve and Cynthia Bova ( bova.cindy@yahoo.com)
