5,000 Tell Congress, Listen to Us, Not Big Insurance: Video and Pictures
David wrote an extensive piece on the protest of the insurance industry and its lobbyists on Tuesday in Washington D.C. Today we have great video and more pictures of the protest. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to organize the event and all the concerned people who made their way to D.C. to tell Congress to listen to us and not big insurance.
There is a set of photos over on the USAction Facebook page. Homemade signs, creative costumes, excellent turnout and a ton of energy made for an exciting protest; check out a few of the photos below.
Former Governor of Vermont and head of the DNC Howard Dean started off the rally at Dupont Circle. He is surrounded by movement leaders like Anna Burger of SEIU and Richard Kirsch of HCAN and health insurance industry survivors like David and Kelly Arellanes and Christine Grewell.
USAction President William McNary at the podium deputizing the 5,000 protestors in the streets surrounding the Ritz-Carlton.
USAction Executive Director Jeff Blum holding up the warrant for arrest while being escorted away by police.
And from the HCAN blog, a great shot of the crowd gathered on 22nd Street to let the insurance lobby and Congress know that we will not take corporate abuse anymore.

You can check out the rest of the photos in the USAction Facebook photo album: Thousands Head to D.C. to Protest Big Insurance.

My husband and I have paid high taxes all of our working lives; a long time. Our parents, brothers and sisters, aunts., uncles cousins, children, nieces and nephews always paid/pay “their national dept.” The men in our families have gone to war, and supported our country no matter what. We have traveled to strange countries for our government. We help our families and friends because we want to. We are critical and progressive thinkers; we are college educated, we are honest, and very real. It is time for us and many more Americans to enjoy yhe rities of good health that we have been paying out through our”noses” for many, many years. Our government has allowed them selves to embrace corruption thru’ supporting big insurance companies who help the politicians keep “their seats.”
I join the voises of protest which is my American rite.
I will only vote for those who uphold the constitution and serve the people.
I am an American, and I and all Americans want our American rites.

so bad there were like….almost 1mil at a rally last year screaming “KILL THE BILL!” I was one of those people :).
I want health care reform, but I want it to be more free enterprise and less government! I want to do away with all the frivolous law suits, make plans available across state line to encourage the free market system, and i want to do away with “pre-existing conditions”. I don’t want the government to be in charge of my health care! Health care is a privilege, not a right, and if you don’t have insurance there are charities that help. (trust me i know from personal experience) Also in the ER by law they HAVE to treat some one that comes in.
